Retirement and Superannuation

We oppose any increase in the age of eligibility for NZ superannuation.
Our reasons are:

-
65 years is already a high threshold by international standards.
-
Raising the superannuation age discriminates against school leavers and manual workers (relative to graduates and white-collar workers). School leavers spend more years working, and manual workers are likely to have worse health prospects (on average) when they retire at 65.
-
Superannuation is a social contract between the government and its people, which should not lightly be broken.
-
Life expectancy is not currently increasing in New Zealand.

We would remove the penalty currently existing on superannuation payments for married couples.
